Become part of an outstanding volunteer team. Mercy Hospital offers a wide range of volunteer service opportunities for adults, teens, and offsite groups.

Each year, our volunteers contribute more than 70,000 service hours to further the long-standing mission of Mercy Hospital, located in Canton, Ohio. Adult and teen volunteers help our healthcare professionals enhance the care we provide to patients and their families.

Volunteer Program Requirements

The minimum age to volunteer at Mercy Hospital is 15. All individuals who would like to be considered for a volunteer assignment are required to complete the Cleveland Clinic Volunteer Services application and onboarding. Onboarding includes a background check, review of policies and procedures, TB test, volunteer orientation and role specific training.

Based on the desired role, other requirements may apply.

  • Traditional Volunteer Roles

    • Inpatient and Outpatient Unit Support
    • Lobby Greeting & Wayfinding assistance
    • Waiting Area & Surgical Services Support
  • Spiritual Care

    Spiritual Care Volunteers carry out a faith-based tradition and must be recognized by and meet all requirements of their local faith group/organization.
  • Caring Canines

    Caring Canine Volunteers bring their dog to visit with patients and Caregivers. The dog must be trained and certified through a recognized therapy dog organization. Caring Canine shifts are scheduled weekly for 90 minutes.
  • Teen TAG (Together Achieving Greatness)

    Our Teen TAG program is designed for high school and college students aged 15-20. Participants are placed in a volunteer role to gain insight and experience into hospital operations and have the option to participate in lectures and workshops to enhance learning and skill development.
  • Healthcare Partners (HCP)

    HCPs are current and former Cleveland Clinic patients. HCPs may also be family or friends who were previously or are currently involved in a Cleveland Clinic patient's care. HCPs sit on councils and projects with Cleveland Clinic Caregivers to improve the way we design and deliver care.
